Garlande Powell, LCSW
Ms. Powell has her Masters in Social Work and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed School Social Worker, a Licensed Clinical Abuse Specialist (LCAS), Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS), Internationally Certified Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counselor (ICAADC). and Internationally Certified Clinical Supervisor (ICCS). She began her social work career in group homes in North Carolina, worked in the geriatrics field as a nursing home social worker, and then transitioned to a social work case manager of children and adults with developmental disabilities. She later moved to school social work before accepting a substance abuse screening postion at the local department of social services. Ms. Powell also served as an adjunct professor for East Carolina University, and later went into private practice. She currently serves the New Hanover County area providing supervision to LCSWAs and LCASAs. Ms Powell was appointed by Governor Pat McCrory in 2014, and reappointed by Governor Roy Cooper in 2017, to the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board. She is currently serving as chair of this board. She believes that God has called her to this work, and she has a passion for helping others restore their souls to health and peace. She uses many therapeutic models within her practice, including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Goal-Oriented Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, Pragmatic Therapy, Reality Therapy, Gestalt Therapy and others.
Ms. Powell works in our main Wilmington CareNet location at 610 S. College Rd. The first visit will be primarily for information gathering. The following visit will be narrowing down and focusing on your goals and objectives for your sessions. Ms. Powell's normal work hours are 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday. She looks forward to walking with you on this journey towards healing and peace.
